I got hold of Mario Sports Mix yesterday, and have investigated its contents from the ISO. From what I dug up, here’s what I’ve seen…
1: The ISO contains a lot of .bin files, which are given unusual names. The contents in the stage folder also have .bin files.
2: The chr folder contains a series of files that end with either .mdl or .mot. Like with the .bin files, they too have unusual names, which makes it hard to figure out what is what.
ISO:\chr\
3: The game does support BRSTM files, which are found in…
ISO:\snd\stream\
Now, according to a thread from SmashBoards, the game does support MDL0 files, but the files are given a compression that’s yet to be cracked.
Also, if the game truly does use MDL0 files, it may also support TEX0 and PLT0 files; which are used with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
About the textures, I did a texture dump and investigated a lot of the textures. Strangely, the grayscale texture formats (I4, I8, IA4, and IA8) have shades of red in them. Additionally, there are CI4 and CI8 textures as well, meaning that there are textures that use palettes in this game.
To conclude, if there does come a time when the ISO’s contents do get cracked, there might be another game that I’ll do texture hacks for. Until then, I’ll just take what I get.
Enjoy the game if you have it already.
Awesome! I was gonna do a few posts on exploring ISO contents, I'm, glad you've started the ball rolling.
Please could you send me the ISO via attachment?
