This guide by Pikazapper details an easier way to replace the files in an ISO. Rather than 1 at a time, you can replace the whole DATA partition at once. For single file replacement, check out thisguide.
You’ll need WiiScrubber v1.4, Partition Builder v1.2 (found here), and a legally ripped NSMBw ISO.
Load up your NSMBw ISO into WiiScrubber. Right Click on the DATA Partition. Choose “Unencrypted Partition” -> “Extract”. Be sure to save it in a folder with a name that’s easy to remember! (like “NSMBw DATA Partition”)

After it has finished extracting, expand the partition by clicking the “+” symbol next to it. Find these files and extract them (Right Click -> “Extract”): ‘partition.bin’ ‘apploader.img’ ‘boot.bin’ ‘bi2.bin’ and ‘main.dol’. Save these in a folder separate from the DATA Partition, but somewhere you’ll remember!
Once you’re ready to put the files back into the ISO, open Partition Builder. It will need the 5 files you extracted earlier. Click on each button with “…” on it to browse for the file. After you’ve done this for each file, you’ll have to point it to the folder that contains the DATA Partition you extracted earlier. I’m not exactly sure what the “Data Alignment” option does, so just leave it at “4.”. Now click “Build.” Click yes on the box that pops up. Choose where you want to save the Partition file (called “partition1.img” by default). Once it finishes, a message box will pop up saying “Partition file created”. Close Partiton Builder.
Open WiiScrubber and load your NSMBw ISO. Right Click the DATA Partition and go to “Unencrypted Partition” -> “Load”. Find the partition1.img file that Partition Builder created. After selecting it, WiiScrubber will replace the files in the ISO with the files in the Partition.img file. Once it has finished, use whatever method you use to load backups. I can’t recall having any issues with this method.
yay first comment.. ahem thanks dude i couldn't find this ANYWHERE!
I am hoping that this will work for the title screen. I have tried SZS and a few others including the WII.cs or whatever it is that had U8MII, etc…. Yet Nothing seems to work I edit the one TLP file in the opening arc. (in US folder -> Layouts??) Don't remember exactly where but I was able to change the title logo, after that it was changed back to TLP and then repacked with U8Mii and then followed what I always do to replace my files in the iso. After putting back on the HDD, I boot the Wii up and select the game. After 5 minutes of waiting for the game to boot, (several times I waited that long), I stay stuck on a black screen. Nothing ever loads. The only thing aside from preforming a "hard reboot", is push the home button on my remote. Unfortunately the only thing that does is show a little no home sign, (like the one you see when you are in a cut scene for some games where you can not skip or use the home button during that scene.) If I could post a pic with this comment I wouldn't be writing so much lol. Any help would be appreciated.
VampireLordAlucard from the Retro Remix mentioned a fix for this, he said the image quality of the converted TPL file is really important, and the reason a patched game won't load: link
Thanx I will read up and reply later.

"Just figured something out. Some people were having problems with this not working, here's why and a fix:
The fst.bin file, from what I can tell, lists every file in the ISO and its filesize. So, when you edit the titlescreen logo, and it's a larger filesize than the original, it throws the game off. One fix was to edit the fst.bin.
Here's a better fix: On the ISO, the titlescreen graphic is a .tpl. So, you extract it, convert it to a PNG, edit it however, then convert it back. If using TplMii.exe to convert it back, there is an option of high, moderate, or low quality. Setting it to high quality doubles the filesize. Setting it to medium makes it the same filesize are the original, but the transparancies are messed up. Setting it to low quality should get the graphic to look fine, and be the same filesize as the original."
Ok read through it. I have been using low quality. I still have the same problem. I Knew that using any other option could be bad. I have also managed to change the .png to the same file size and the dimensions are the same also. I have only received the black screen two other times and that was after I had radically changed a few of the first lvls in the original ISO and when I was changing the Wii remote safety images. What am I missing? Is it the size? I checked the size after I changed the arc file for the title image to a png and it was no longer the same size. Does this mean that the image when changed back to a TLP file some how gets expanded when I change it back to a .png image? Like it was 32.1 in size and then when I changed to TLP then back to png it says it is like 32.8. Does the .7 bytes really matter as far as the wii booting it goes?
Also want to add that I don't know how to edit the fst.bin file
Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were working with an ISO, that would make sense! Pikazapper's the man to ask for this, or try asking at the RVLution.net forums.
I wasn't on this weekend. Thanks Darkly77 I guess i should have said ISO lol thanks again.
Oh you might be able to edit the fst.bin file with a hex editor, like xvi, if that helps :)
Thank you very much. I will do just that.
I just did what was written here. But what was it for?
