It has been quite a long time since I’ve posted anything here. Ever since I got my 3DS in January, I really haven’t done much of any texture hacking, and the maintenance issues that this site dealt with a few months ago didn’t make things any better. Anyway, I’ve been making up this hiatus after getting hold of Mario Party 9. So far, I’ve done two different hacks for that game, so here’s what I’ve worked on… Red Yoshi I did a lot of work with these texture edits. Not only did I modify Yoshi’s body and face, but I also modified his portraits and icons. What you see on the image above is only a portion of my edits. To see them all, you’ll just have to try out the edits yourself. The download comes included with a bunch of text documents, which tell you what files to look for, along with the offset placements for each texture part. The icons are merely aesthetic, but it’s just something that I did while viewing the ISO’s contents. Red Magikoopa Yup, … Continue reading →

So far, I’ve done two different hacks for that game, so here’s what I’ve worked on…

Red Yoshi

I did a lot of work with these texture edits.

Red Magikoopa

Yup, it’s the Red Magikoopa, which appeared in the Paper Mario and Mario Baseball titles. Simply put, I merely changed the Magikoopa’s cloak to a red coloring. And of course, I altered his icons and portraits along the way. Just like with Red Yoshi, you’ll just have to go through all the files that the download contains to see all the portraits that have been modified.

On a side note, some of the content is region-specific, since in the PAL version of Mario Party 9, Magikoopa is named Kamek. Since the download contents are from the NTSC-U version of the game, I’m not too sure about how the PAL version will handle them.

Now, I did show these hacks at the RVLution forums, but apparently, Mareep, our newest member here, could not figure out the icon replacing stuff. A lot of the icon replacements involve hex editing. Also, my game’s region is NTSC-U, so the contents of my downloads may not be too helpful for PAL users; the NTSC-U version has a folder named locale_us, but it’s named locale_eu in PAL. Anyway, let’s just say that the icon and portrait replacement work is quite advanced, and involves a lot of texture hacking and hex editing experience to pull off; all of which I’ve been able to accomplish during my soon to be 3-year old texture hacking career.

Regardless, however, the hacks are here for you to enjoy, so feel free to use them if you want to.

You’ve all been waiting for it! and here it is! (NO ASM HACKING NEEDED!)

What You’ll Need: A computer, Szs modifier, a 3D modeling program with a .obj exporter, a Wii or Dolphin, Microsoft Excel, and the NSMBW worldmap files.

Step 1: Making The Model:

First, use a 3D modeling program to create the model. (Google sketchup is recommended since you can import from the 3D warehouse) Keep in mind that your model will have to be pretty big in order to be an adequate worldmap!

Step 2: Picking the course numbers & locations:

In your NSMBW worldmap folder from the game, open the Routeinfo.arc with Szs modifier. Inside, you’ll see folders W1-9. Since we are using W9 for this guide, open the W9 folder. Inside, you’ll see routeW9.csv and pointW9.csv. Export them as .csv then open them both with Excel. In pointW9.csv column B lines 2-9, you see 1 W901- 8 W908. If you wish to delete courses, (NOT RECOMMENDED) then delete the corresponding section of text. Adding courses is currently not possible without ASM hacking. In routeW9.csv, if you know how to hex edit, then you can edit the path nodes. VERY DIFFICULT. If you made any changes, import the .csv files back with szs modifier, save routeinfo.arc, and put the new routeinfo.arc in your patch folder.

Step 3: Importing the Model:

Go into CS_W9 with Szs modifier. Go into the 3D models folder, and click CS_W9. In the model editor, and highlight the polygons you want to replace with your model. For this guide, highlight polygons 10-42. Then, go to import, and select/import your .obj. SAVE. If you wish to edit the model now, do it by “pinching” (szs modifier feature)

Step 4-Infinity: Test and improve!

You may want some model templates to play around with, so here’s the one shown above!

maptemplate
