Changing the Title Screen Logo

You’ll need Wii.cs Tools for this. Use U8Mii or UltimateU8 (included with Wii.cs) to extract the contents of ‘openingTitle.arc’ (NTSC/PAL). Use TplMii to convert the TPL image extracted to PNG. Modify the new PNG file, then convert it back to TPL with TplMii. Now pack it with U8Mii/UltimateU8.

VampireLordAlucard mentions on the Retro Remix forum how TPL image quality affects game loading, after some people were having problems, and recommends setting the quality to “low” to avoid problems. View the original message here

If using TplMii.exe to convert it back, there is an option of high, moderate, or low quality. Setting it to high quality doubles the filesize. Setting it to medium makes it the same filesize are the original, but the transparancies are messed up. Setting it to low quality should get the graphic to look fine, and be the same filesize as the original.

Put your newly-modified ‘openingTitle.arc’ file into your Riivolution load folder. You can’t replace this image with SZS Modifier, if you try the game will freeze when you attempt to load your modded logo.

Yea, download the files, mod them, then apply them with riivolution. Download page: http://www.mario-mods.com/2010/06/nsmb-objects.html I think you want 'game elements' (click the 'individual files' link).

i man that can you make it bigger?

  11. MnSG says:

If you make the logo bigger, the file size of the ARC file will increase. Basically, when editing the logo, you have to maintain the size dimensions that it uses.

Also, since the logo is an RGB5A3 texture, you have to keep the texture format as that.

Now, I would think that it would be possible to use a hex editor to modify the logo, seeing as I was able to do that with Mario Kart Wii's TPLs.
